Severstal, one of the world's leading vertically integrated
steel and steel-related mining companies, is presenting new developments for fuel and energy companies at the 10th anniversary St. Petersburg International
Gas Forum (SPIGF-2021), aimed at reducing the cost of investment projects and shortening their implementation period. The forum will be taking place from 5
to 8 October at the EXPOFORUM Exhibition Centre in St Petersburg.
Severstal's stand is located in pavilion F, section 78. Its holographic showcase will demonstrate large-diameter pipes of the Х80 strength
grade with high deformation capacity and pipes with a protective “Kolchuga”
coating.
Severstal became the first Russian pipe company to produce a new generation
of longitudinal electro-welded pipes of the Х80 strength grade with high
deformation capacity for gas pipelines with an operating pressure of 11.8 MPa.
The new generation of pipes has been developed as part of a Scientific and Technical Cooperation Program with Gazprom, with the direct participation of Gazprom VNIIGAZ.
Large-diameter pipes with high deformation capacity are the best possible
technical solution for pipelines located in harsh climatic conditions, seismic
zones and areas of eternally frozen ground, which makes up more than 70% of Russia's territory.
Another product introduced at SPIGF-2021 is a fiberglass coating called
''Kolchuga'' for large-diameter pipes designed to protect pipelines from mechanical damage. Severstal has mastered the production of this coating at the
Izhora Pipe Mill (part of the Severstal Russian Steel division).
“Kolchuga” is used for steel pipes and elbows with an outside diameter from 219 to 1420 mm and is designed to protect the corrosion-resistant coating of pipelines from damage during construction, reconstruction, repair and while in operation. The use of this coating prevents damage when laying pipelines by cut-and-cover method in rocky and eternally frozen ground, when laying
submerged crossing, trenchless laying and above-ground laying.
In addition to hydrocarbon transportation solutions, the Cryonix cryogenic products for the construction of LNG facilities stand out among Severstal's developments. The Cryonix product line of cryogenic
rolled sheets, large-diameter pipes and cryogenic fittings share the resistance
to extreme low temperatures. Severstal is currently Russia's only producer of cryogenic steel that is used in the construction of liquefied natural gas storage tanks.
Severstal will also take part in The Import Substitution in the Gas Industry
exposition with products from the Linde Severstal joint venture. Today, this is
the first and only company in Russia to produce such heat-exchange
equipment.
The stand will feature an interactive multimedia application demonstrating
the key stages of large сoil-wound heat exchangers (CWHEs) production process.
One part of the program is a three-dimensional interactive visualization of the
winding process of CWHE tubes, inviting visitors to try their hand in one of
the main production processes. The stand will also feature an AR portal that will allow visitors to take a photo in front of the main cryogenic heat exchanger of the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plant near Ust-Luga (Leningrad
oblast).
“Severstal confirms its willingness to develop innovative solutions for the
energy industry on short notice, often becoming the first Russian steelmaker to do so. The strategy presented a few years ago to reposition the company as a
supplier of complex solutions customized to customer requirements is confirmed
by real-life examples. We plan to continue to grow in this direction,
building relationships with customers based on a deep understanding of their
needs, and offering solutions that will improve the performance of our
customers,” said Dmitry Goroshkov, Severstal's Director of Sales and Business
Development, Energy Sector.
